Ward – Farmers Direct Ltd

Farmers direct ltd is a family run farming business producing meat from sheep and beef cattle. Home farm extends to 76 acres and was purchased in 2018 after a long period of tenant farming at this location. There is an additional 800 acres on various short term agreements that we also farm with our livestock and crops.

Home farm is undergoing a real transformation currently with a new farm house and a large cattle building under construction and plans for our farm managers house currently in planning.

My family have farmed on the Surrey/Sussex borders for over 100 years and with my wife Rachel and 4 grown up children we are the 4 generation to be farming here. All of the family are invested in the business and own livestock. They do also have their own jobs and work hard in their chosen fields with the continuous interest in the farm and their investment!

Our sheep flock is small averaging approx. 150 ewes. We fatten our own lambs and also buy in approx. 4,000 store lambs which we specialize in finishing at high weights and extra maturity for a number of high end and niche markets. This usually means that we shear our late season lambs in mid April and continue to sell hogget right through to mid-July. Last year we sheared over 3500 lambs which not only produced excellent wool but encourages the lambs to grow faster and mature to heavier weights for our butchers.
